I have said it before. EVE-Online is a game with PvP in mind. Care bears holding 0.0 stations goes against this theme. This so called 'bug' is actually a new feature. Become a PvP alliance and you will get extra time to fight off the invaders.
à.
Is there room in 0.0 for alliances who love PVP but can only devote a more modest amount of time to the game ? IÆm not speaking for my alliance or corp (and I donÆt think IÆm even supposed to be posting tbh) à there are varying time commitments available and certainly not all are in my boat.
IÆm 45 years old.. have a full time job, have younger kids who I make dinner for and spend time with before they go to bed, help coach their soccer teams, go to their sports games on weekends etc. .
Now, for a social/recreational activity, IÆm inclined to hang out with people who have more roughly similar situationsà.you do spend a lot of time together nightly on vent/etc. Some alliances are going to tend more in that direction than others . I donÆt really feel like hearing the locker room results of 19 year olds dating or be hazed for relative lack of time/skillz by those that got much more time for the game.
Maybe IÆve ôonlyö (LOL run that by some-one who doesnÆt play mmorgs) 20 hours a week to play Eve and while I can schedule some weekend or alarm clock turn outs, really only one or two a week are feasible without compromising other RL things.
So is there a place for people who donÆt want to carebear , like pvp, like the idea of the slower burn, more epic struggle of 0.0 space holding but ôonlyö have 20 hours a week to form aliances and hold 0.0 space ? (lol again.. think of a Dad ôonlyö playing golf 20 hours a week and what that says of their comitment to their family) .
Now, I wouldnÆt expect people with less time to be equal in strength to those with more timeà it doesnÆt make sense that they conquer the universe,
BUT wouldnÆt it make sense for game/soveignity mechanics to be structured in such a way so that a few hundred people with more ômodestö time commitments spread across time zones etc might still be able to hold on to some systems and keep jump bridges etc ?
I know the devil is in the details in terms of any system trying to widen the scope of players being exploited in ways that make the devoted even more invincible but
The Dominion soveignity system with incentives to improve systems and hold less and drawn out requirements (multiple timers) to take a system seemed to offer some means for pvpers with more RL commitments to play the 0.0 game. (and do so with like minded people with similar life/game balances)
IMO, This step away from the original Dominion soveignity mechanics greatly diminishes defensive capabilities for groups that ôhave a lifeö (in a family-man/woman sense) .
